Decision Interface's initial expertise was in assisting our clients in technology vendor selection.  We developed a methodology specifically for vendor selection that has been continually enhanced as our projects dictated.  Our vendor selection process is now incorporated into our implementation methodology, ManageIT, and can be initiated as either a stand-alone process or imbedded within a larger implementation effort.

 

The vendor selection is a key strategic issue over the life of either an assessment project or an implementation project.  We believe that the selection process must involve the key members of the client's user communities' management team.  The information technology group can coordinate the selection process, but does not have to.  We recommend a senior management team comprised of the CIO and the manager's of the user departments.  However, the CIO must drive the technology planning process from the top for this effort to be successful.

 

There is no single correct vendor answer.  Each vendor has pros and cons depending on the strategic vision, competitive position and existing operations of each client.  We incorporate a risk assessment rating to allow us to better isolate the correct vendor for our client.  It is imperative that a vendor selection process be put into place to put boundaries on the process and reduce the risk of a poor selection. 

 

Our methodology is a seven step process.  The steps are:

  2. Needs Assessment
  3. RFP generation
  4. Bid Evaluation and finalist selection
  5. Demos/Due Diligence
  6. Vendor Selection
  7. Contract Negotiation
